  1. Log into eLC as an instructor and open your course.

  2. Navigate to Tools > Quizzes and select the Lockdown Browser tab

  3. If you see a page titled “Approve Application” just select the checkbox and hit OK

  4. An "About Lockdown Browser" will appear next. Just select the “Continue to Lockdown Browser button.” It may take a minute for your list of quizzes to load. Quizzes labeled with Required are already configured to require LDB. Quizzes labeled with Not Required don’t require LDB.

  5. To modify the settings for a specific quiz, select the down arrow to the left of the quiz title and select Settings . This expands the list of the LDB settings.

  6. Select “Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam”. This further expands the LDB settings list.

  7. Configure advanced settings, select the "+" icon to the left of the Advanced Settings heading. This will expand the list of advanced settings.

  8. Check the option to allow students to use iPads if you approve (recommended).

  9. Select Save and Close  to apply settings.

Notes

When copying quizzes from previous courses

If you want to continue to use LDB on a quiz copied from a previous course configured to use LDB, copy the quiz(zes) to the new course in eLC, open up that quiz (in the new course) and select the LockDown Browser tab. Select the “Fix It” button if it appears next to the name of the quiz. The quiz will then be renamed, with the Requires Lockdown Browser added to the original name of the quiz.

Submission/Attempt Views

If you have required LDB in your tests, students will be required to use LDB to view the attempt(s) and submission views unless you disable LDB after the test closes. To disable LDB, you will need to return to the Lockdown Browser Tab in quizzes and modify the settings for a specific quiz to not require LDB.

Preparing Exams

This course requires the use of LockDown Browser for online exams. Watch this short video to get a basic understanding of LockDown Browser and the optional webcam feature (which may be required for some exams).

Then download and install LockDown Browser from this link.

To take tests, start LockDown Browser and navigate to the exam. (You won't be able to access the exam with a standard web browser.) For additional details on using LockDown Browser, review this Student Quick Start Guide (PDF)

Finally, when taking an online exam, follow these guidelines:

  • Select a location where you won't be interrupted

  • Before starting the test, know how much time is available for it, and that you've allotted sufficient time to complete it

  • Turn off all mobile devices, phones, etc. and don't have them within reach

  • Clear your area of all external materials — books, papers, other computers, or devices

  • Remain at your desk or workstation for the duration of the test

  • LockDown Browser will prevent you from accessing other websites or applications; you will be unable to exit the test until all questions are completed and submitted
